PESSIMISM

HOW TO OVERCOME

PESSIMISM

PESSIMISM :                                                                  When you look at a bottle half filled with water, you can describe it in two ways.ie. Half full or Half empty. If you describe it as half full, you are an optimist. If you say, it is half empty you are a pessimist.
This sample test is a humorous way of measuring your psychological leanings, but there are many more subtle points that need to be understood about too common malady of pessimism.

EFFECTS OF PESSIMISM
Pessimism, or a negative way of looking at every situation, is a very destructive quality. Like other diseases, it harms oneself and others. Ironically, some people are not harmed very much by their own negativity, but they become carriers of this disease and transmit it's undesirable effects to others.

For example, a couple you know, may be fighting bitterly and they may come to you seeking guidance. Seeing their tension, you become completely miserable. By the next day you feel completely depleted, but that couple has made up and they are joyous.  In this way, they have become carriers of their negativity, and passed malady on to you

If you have tried repeatedly to accomplish something, but again and again you encounter failure, you become pessimistic.  You feel that the world does not have any purpose, and your faith in a Divine Order is completely shaken.  From the point of view of Yoga philosophy, however, there is a divine purpose behind everything in life.  If you have that deep insight, you will have a better possibility of handling the situations that spur you to pessimism.
Adversity challenges you and enables you to practice a special type of austerity.  It allows your mind to be churned in an intense way, and allows you to discover your willpower and strength and to become a person of more profound mettle.

OUR LOOKS REFLECTS OUR MIND AND DEED:
A parable is told about two prisoners, who were kept confined and not permitted to see anything of the outside world.  One day however, they were give permission to view the outer world from behind the prison bars. At that time, one of them looked through bars and saw the beautiful full moon and the stars and his mind became filled with ecstasy.  The other one looked through the bars and instaed of seeing the moon, he saw a little drainage ditch with worms crawling in it and his mind became full of bitter feelings.
